Farstead Studio

Honest about limits.

We build the way you'd build a shell around a star: in small pieces, each one checked before the next goes up. These are the rules we keep.

  1. Few parts

Every dependency is a seam that can split. We use as few as the job allows, and boring ones where it counts.

  2. Open formats

Your work leaves in a file other programs can read. If we vanish, your data doesn't.

  3. No destructive refits

Updates never eat old data. Old versions still open in new ones.

  4. Offline first

The work happens on your device. The network is a convenience, not a lifeline.

  5. No dark patterns

No streak shaming, no nagging, no tricks at the exit. You leave as easily as you came.

  6. Visible workings

We show drafts, process and tools. If a thing can be opened up and understood, we built it right.

  7. Notes for the next keeper

Every project carries the notes someone else would need to keep it running. Sometimes that someone is you.

Every plate on the Wall says when it was last serviced. That date is the promise.
